Uh-Oh: Beyond the Spider-Verse Actor Hasn't Been Called To Perform His Lines Yet

Published 1 month ago2 minute read

Any hopes of seeing Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse appear in 2025 were dashed today with the words of Jharrel Jerome, the actor who’s playing a major part in that film.

In an interview, Jerome was asked by the website Decider if he’d recorded any of his lines for his character yet. He bluntly replied “No, I wish.” He continued and clarified: “We haven’t started up yet. A lot of things being figured out, but good things.” Since voice work is one of the first steps forward in making an animated movie, we’ve still got a loooong wait.

To explain what part Jerome plays and why it’s significant, I’m going to have to talk about the very end of Across The Spider-Verse, which is a huge spoiler, so….only people who have seen the first two movies should venture on from here.

At the end of the movie, Miles is surprised to meet a version of himself from another Earth….an EVIL version of himself. This Miles was the one who was meant to get the radioactive spider bite that our Miles got. But since that spider wound up in our Miles’ dimension, that never happened, and supervillains took over the other Miles’ world. Now Miles of Earth-42 is a villain himself, the Prowler.

Sony announced last December that Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson have been assigned to direct Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse. Persichetti co-directed the first movie and served as executive producer on the second, while Thompson was a production designer on them both.

“Bob and Justin’s fingerprints are woven into the DNA of these films, and their passion for Miles’ journey shines through in every frame of his last adventure,” producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller said at the time. “There is nothing more rewarding than collaborating with creative partners with bold vision and brilliant execution like Bob and Justin. We are thrilled to work with them once again to create a beautiful and satisfying conclusion to this story.”

Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse still has no release date, and we may not hear of one for quite a while. Some analysts are predicting 2026, but this feels generous to us.
