UAE temperatures have reached a high of 50.5ºC on Tuesday, June 17, the country's National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) said.

It was recorded at 2.30pm in Sweihan, Al Ain.

On Friday, June 13, temperatures had reached a high of 50.1ºC, also in Sweihan. Sweihan had also previously recorded a scorching 50.8ºC on June 9.

Last month, the country experienced , with extreme heat persisting for longer periods throughout the day.

It had hit a scorching 51.6ºC in Sweihan on May 24. It was the hottest May day the UAE has seen since records began in 2003. The previous high was 50.2ºC in Al Shawamekh back in 2009.

June 21 marks summer solstice in UAE, according to Dubai Astronomy Group. A summer solstice is the moment when the Sun reaches its highest and northernmost point in the sky.

The summer solstice is set to start at 06.42 UAE time and will last for three months until the autumnal equinox around September 23.

The UAE will experience its longest days between June 18 and 24, with daylight lasting up to 13 hours and 43 minutes, astronomy expert Ibrahim Al Jarwan has said.

The first half of summer, which extends from June 21 to August 10, will be marked by rising temperatures, with averages ranging from 41 to 43 °C during the day and 26–29 °C at night.

Meanwhile, the the lowest lowest temperature recorded over the country on Tuesday, June 17, was 23.1°C in Raknah in Al Ain at 5.45am.
