Two injured in bloody Akrokerri mining clash
The clash, which occurred at the Akrokerri Police Station, involved two rival groups of miners arguing over control and management of mining operations in the area.
Speaking to Adom News, Nana Osei Yaw, a mining site owner, accused Christian Twumasi, also known as Akwala, of mismanagement.
He alleged that Akwala’s leadership was characterized by extortion and conflict and claimed that his authority was no longer recognized with the recent change in government.
According to Nana Yaw, the dispute escalated when Akwala allegedly mobilized his men to attack him and his group, forcing them to seek refuge at the police station.
However, Akwala denied these accusations, stating that his team was at their mining site when Nana Yaw’s group, led by a man identified as Kapaala, stormed the area.
He claimed that Kapaala’s men threatened to shoot their driver if he attempted to leave with some mining equipment, leading to a heated confrontation that eventually spilled over to the police station.
The police have since restored calm and launched an investigation into the incident.
