Two Injured As Trucks Collide In Lagos

Two persons sustained severe injuries in the early hours of Sunday following a head-on collision between two articulated trucks at Epe Bridge, inward Eleran Igbe, along the Ibeju-Lekki Road in Lagos.

According to a preliminary report by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the accident occurred at about 5:48 a.m. and was caused by excessive speed.

The driver of a container-laden truck failed to notice an oncoming articulated truck in time, resulting in the crash.

Emergency responders from LASEMA’s Epe Base arrived at the scene at 6:08 a.m. and found both trucks badly damaged. The driver and assistant of the containerized truck suffered critical injuries and received first aid before being rushed to Epe General Hospital for further treatment. The driver of the other truck sustained minor injuries and was treated on-site.

The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed that its response team, in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), swiftly implemented safety measures to prevent secondary incidents.

“Preliminary investigations by the LASEMA Response Team indicate that the incident was caused by excessive speed on the part of the containerized truck driver, who failed to observe the on-coming articulated truck on time, thus resulting in the collision,” Oke-Osanyintolu, said in a statement.

Both trucks were successfully recovered from the bridge and handed over to FRSC officials at their Eleko office.
