Two Galadimas emerge as Sanusi, Bayero appoint new traditional titleholders
The prolonged tussle in the Kano Emirate took a fresh dimension as the 16th Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II, and his cousin brother, Aminu Ado Bayero, 15th Emir, on Friday appointed new Galadiman Kano.
The appointment of two Galadimas in Kano, after the demise of Alh. Abba Sanusi—the first of its kind in the history of the Fulani emirate—has further widened the lingering emirship crisis.
At the ancient Kofar Kudu palace, Sanusi officially decorated Alh. Munir Sanusi Bayero as the new Galadima, alongside four other senior traditional councillors to hold various positions in the emirate.
The Sanusi-anointed Galadima, Bayero, who is also his cousin and brother to the late Galadima. Besides, Emir Sanusi also decorated his son, Adam Lamido Sanusi, as Tafidan Kano; Alh. Kabir Tijjani Hashim Wamban Kano, Turakin Kano; Alhaji Mahmud Ado Bayero as Turakin Kano; and Alh. Ahmad Abbas Sanusi as Yariman Kano.
Speaking during the coronation ‘Rurbaning’, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi enjoins the newly upgraded traditional title holders to remain exemplary leaders and demonstrate loyalty to the emirate as well as compassion to the common man.
“You have been chosen based on your track records and that of your families. Most of you (referring to them individually) have shown and demonstrated loyalty to the emirate and our lineage, the people, and the state in general.
“We are aware already of what you have been doing. You have been on the saddle to help the poor and are contributing immensely to the betterment of the society. I urge you all to keep it up and ensure that you borrow a leaf from your fathers. May God help you all in discharging your duties,” he said.
The turbaning was witnessed by the state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, other members of the State Executive Council, traditional and religious leaders, family and friends, among many others.
At the separate coronation held at Nasarawa mini palace, the 15th Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, turbaned Alhaji Sunusi Lamido Ado Bayero as the new Galadiman Kano.
