Two Dead in Suspected Cult Clash at Oko Polytechnic's Host Community

A fatal attack attributed to alleged cultists occurred in the Oko area of Anambra State, a community known for hosting the Federal Polytechnic. The incident, which took place in the late hours of Thursday, June 19, 2025, resulted in two fatalities and the abduction of two individuals. Disturbing videos depicting lifeless bodies and injured victims, groaning in pain and fearing for their lives, surfaced on Friday.

Eyewitness accounts describe gunmen arriving in two cars, or alternatively, with a motorcycle and a black Lexus 350 SUV without a plate number, engaging in sporadic shooting to terrorize residents. The attacks occurred at the Total Junction and Tipper junction within Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area. Unconfirmed reports also suggest that the shooting erupted over a checkpoint mounted by the Udo Ga Achi security outfit, with the assailants seemingly disgruntled by the checkpoints' proximity.

Tochukwu Ikenga, the Anambra State police spokesperson, confirmed the casualties and abductions. He also stated that one of the wounded victims, a lady, is currently receiving treatment at a hospital. The police operatives, led by the Area Commander Aguata and complemented by a Joint Security Force comprising the Army, Navy, Civil Defence, and Vigilante Operatives, have taken control of the scene.

The state command has initiated a comprehensive investigation into the incident, actively utilizing information gathered from eyewitnesses. The police are working closely with the joint security force to ensure the possible arrest of the perpetrators. Meanwhile, the command has urged for calm among the community as operatives work diligently on clues from the scene to bring the hoodlums to justice.
