Peter Losike was recorded by philanthropist Walter Okiya doing his homework at night under a streetlight.
Okiya's heart went out to him as he was moved by compassion upon seeing the zeal in the little boy to gain an education.
He had a chat with him that night, seeking to understand more about Losike and the challenges he faced.
“I study here because there is no electricity at home. My dad and mum passed away, and I stay with my grandmother. She also cannot help herself. I come here to study when no one can disturb me,” the little boy shared during his first encounter with Okiya.
Okiya promised to help Losike and take him to school to ensure his educational dream did not die prematurely.
He visited Losike's home, where he found the little boy’s grandmother sleeping on the floor without proper bedding.
“We are going to change this family's life. We will buy them a solar panel, a mattress, and bedding. We will make a difference,” Okiya said as he showed his fans the difficult conditions Losike and his grandmother lived in.
True to his word, Okiya — with the help of his online community — bought a solar panel for the family and shared a video of the little boy using the electricity from it to study at night.
He also provided them with bedding and other essentials, accounting for every penny he received from kindhearted Kenyans.
The next project was to take Losike to school to ensure he received a quality education and a renewed chance at achieving his dreams.
It wasn’t long before Losike received new clothes and a fresh hairstyle in preparation for joining his new, prestigious school.
Okiya shared a screenshot of the KSh 100,000 transaction he made to cater for an entire school term's fees.
He later shared another update showing Losike, who was joining Grade 5 in a high-end boarding school, looking sharp in his new school uniform.
Kenyans were touched by the little boy’s story and flocked to the comment section to praise Okiya and express their joy.
Eunice Favour:
"Wow, now I understand what it means when they say God's ways are different from ours. The boy's hope was streetlights, but God's plan was bigger."
Joshua Mulai:
"May the Lord Almighty bless and nourish your life."
Edina Mariera:
"Good work, brother, keep it up. Continue wiping the tears of the needy so they can achieve their dreams. God bless you. You will never lack, in Jesus’s name."
Judith Blessed Teresah:
"Wewe na Dani Wema, nyinyi ni watumishi kwa wote. Mbarikiwe sana. Hiyo thawabu mtapewa mbinguni. Wokovu siyo kwenda church Sunday, ni matendo kama mnayofanya."
Mary Owiti:
"May Almighty God bless, cover, protect, and shield you with His blood. More grace to you."
