Troops arrest bandit, recover arms in Kaduna, Plateau operations
Troops from 3 Division and Operation Safe Haven have arrested a suspected bandit and recovered arms and ammunition in separate operations in Kaduna and Plateau states.
According to security sources, on June 15, the troops intercepted the alleged armed bandit in Katsit community, Zangon Kataf Local Council of Kaduna State. The suspect, who reportedly impersonated soldiers to rob unsuspecting residents, was found with an AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine, three rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, seven empty shell casings of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, a fake vigilante identity card, a mobile phone, and two ATM cards. The suspect is currently in custody for further investigation.
In another operation on June 16, troops raided a hideout of a suspected gunrunning syndicate in Kwanar Lauje, Bassa Local Council of Plateau State. While the suspects escaped before the soldiers arrived, a search of the area revealed a cache of arms and ammunition, including an AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine, an AK-47 rifle butt, 300 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, one 9mm round, and two 12.7mm rounds. An abandoned motorcycle was also recovered.
The recovered items are in custody, and follow-up operations are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
