An extensive and highly aesthetic 14-page tribute to the Regional Unit of Lassithi hosts the new issue of the prestigious British magazine Food & Travel Magazine, under the title «MINOAN ROOTS». The tribute is signed by the acclaimed journalist Rosemary Barron and the award-winning photographer Gary Latham, and is the fruit of the journalistic mission that was implemented in October 2024 at the initiative of the Region of Crete and the GNTO office of the United Kingdom.

Through rich photographic material and detailed narrative texts, the tribute invites readers to “discover the flavors, traditions and fascinating landscape of Eastern Crete, where history and hospitality coexist”. Particular emphasis is placed on the authenticity of Cretan food, quality local products, traditional recipes, and customs that are kept alive in the Lassithi region. The tribute also includes practical travel information and a useful glossary of culinary terms of Crete.

The mission was a coordinated effort of the Region of Crete and the Lassithi Regional Authority, in collaboration with local bodies, businesses and residents of the area, with the aim of highlighting the gastronomic and cultural identity of the place.

The Deputy Regional Governor of Tourism of Crete, , noted in this regard:

“Every tribute, every article, every line dedicated to Cretan Gastronomy, is a stepping stone towards something much greater: what we call the Gastronomic Culture of Crete. We want to highlight this culture through the claim of the title of Gastronomic Region of Europe for 2026, and this is the direction in which the Food & Travel Magazine tribute is moving, which we hope will continue.”

For his part, the Deputy Regional Governor of Lassithi,, emphasized:

“The article highlights in an excellent way the flavors, gastronomy, local products, and, above all, the people of our place. The quality of the tribute confirms the uniqueness of the experiences that our region offers. With targeted actions and synergies, we strengthen the international visibility of Lassithi and Crete as a single, authentic destination”.

The Regional Tourism Advisor of the Regional Tourism Authority of Lassithi, , underlined the importance of choosing this particular medium:

“The profile of Food & Travel readers is fully aligned with our strategy to attract high-value visitors, who seek authentic experiences and are interested in local culture. Our goal is to extend the tourist season and highlight our comparative advantages”.

Food & Travel Magazine is one of the leading international gastronomic tourism publications, with a presence in seven countries and a monthly circulation of 31,000 copies in the United Kingdom. According to the magazine's official figures, 95% of its readers have an annual income of over £50,000, while 73% exceed £76,000. On average, they take 2-3 international trips per year, with an average spend of £3,482 per person on their main trip.
