Todd and Julie Chrisley Released from Prison After Presidential Pardon

Reality TV stars Todd and Julie Chrisley, known from their show "Chrisley Knows Best," were released from federal prison on May 28, 2025, after receiving full pardons from President Donald Trump. Todd Chrisley was released from a federal prison camp in Pensacola, Florida, and Julie Chrisley was released from the Federal Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky, where they had been serving their respective sentences.

The couple was convicted in 2022 on charges of conspiracy to defraud banks out of more than $30 million and several tax crimes, including attempting to defraud the Internal Revenue Service. Todd Chrisley had been sentenced to 12 years in prison, while Julie Chrisley received a seven-year sentence. They commenced their sentences in January 2023 and had consistently maintained their innocence, actively pursuing appeals against their convictions at the time of the pardon.

President Trump's decision to grant the pardons was reportedly influenced significantly by the advocacy of their daughter, Savannah Chrisley. She had publicly argued that her parents were victims of politically motivated prosecution. Savannah Chrisley had also been involved in supporting Trump, including speaking at the Republican National Convention and participating in "Team Trump’s Women Tour." President Trump personally informed Savannah of the pardons on the Tuesday preceding their release, reportedly stating, "It’s a terrible thing... But it’s a great thing because your parents are going to be free and clean," and characterized their punishment as "pretty harsh."

Following the announcement of the pardons, the Chrisleys' children, Savannah and Grayson Chrisley, coordinated the retrieval of their parents from the separate correctional facilities. Savannah Chrisley shared her emotional response and gratitude on social media, exclaiming, "My parents get to start their lives over!".

According to the Chrisleys' attorney, Alex Little, the presidential pardons effectively nullify the couple's convictions. This action allows Todd and Julie Chrisley to resume their lives without the stigma or legal impediments of a criminal record. Little elaborated that "A pardon like this generally ends the case entirely... it's as if the case hasn't happened."

It is noteworthy that Peter Tarantino, the Chrisleys' accountant who was also convicted in connection with the financial fraud scheme, did not receive a pardon. Consequent to their convictions, the reality television shows featuring the family, "Chrisley Knows Best" and its spin-off "Growing Up Chrisley," were canceled. However, with their release and pardons, discussions about potential future projects for the Chrisleys have reportedly begun to emerge.
