SaharaReporters gathered that several assailants attacked Oluwatosin, shooting and hacking him to death with machetes on Saturday.

Suspected thugs, linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Ijede Local Council Development Area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, have shot and killed former chairmanship aspirant Oluwatosin Onamade.

SaharaReporters gathered that several assailants attacked Oluwatosin, shooting and hacking him to death with machetes on Saturday.

A family source told SaharaReporters on Monday that the thugs had been trailing him for years due to his popularity and accountability in the community, fearing he could secure the chairmanship ticket.

Oluwatosin, a prominent APC member, miraculously survived an assassination attempt in 2021 while contesting for the Ijede LCDA chairmanship under the APC.

Speaking with SaharaReporters, the family source confirmed that Oluwatosin was killed on Saturday evening.

"I received a call, and upon getting there, I saw that they had shot and macheted him. The police recovered at least five cartridges at the scene," the source said.

The source said, "Four years ago, an APC chieftain sent thugs to attack my brother. They shot him, but he escaped. However, they killed one of his domestic staff members.

"They beat me into a coma, and I woke up on the 16th day. Since then, he has been monitoring him. He took them to court. They were 17 in total who carried out the attack.

"After the ringleader was arrested and charged to court, he said he would not plead guilty to the crime he committed. He insists that he will go to any length to fight the case with the support of the APC chieftain.”

The source told SaharaReporters that in November 2024, before the judiciary went on vacation, the APC chieftain mentioned they would negotiate a bargain with the deceased behind the scenes.

The source said, "Immediately after reaching out, the deceased refused to accept the deal. He questioned how someone who committed murder could be set free. We don’t want these cases to be handled the way they usually are in Ikorodu, particularly in Ijede, where political influence is used to cover up crimes.

"The Inspector General of Police is aware of the case. Even he pleaded for a settlement, but my brother refused, insisting that the person who committed the crime should face the law."

The source told SaharaReporters that since then, they had been targeting the deceased before finally killing him on Saturday.

When SaharaReporters reached out to Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, for comments, he stated, "Investigation into the incident has commenced."
