Thousands of Arkansans left without power caused by weekend severe weather

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – No electricity equals a cold and dark night for thousands of Arkansans.

Miracle Thomas is a student at Philander Smith University in Little Rock. Because of severe weather causing power outages, she says her dorm hasn’t had power for days.

“I need a comfortable place to lay my head. My dorm is like my home, and it’s hard being away from home. To be at home with no lights, no food, not knowing when your lights are going to be back on,” Thomas said.

Flooding, power outages and damage left as severe weather sweeps through Arkansas

A short drive away, Norma Johnson spent Saturday without power too.

She said the power didn’t stay out for long, but the damage in her front yard caused by a tree falling isn’t such an easy fix.

“The concrete,” Johnson said, “The tree is still somewhat embedded deeply — where it has lifted up the concrete. So, I think that’s going to be a major issue.”

Days of heavy rain and strong winds, leaving Arkansas helping and hoping this is the last of the severe weather.
