Severe weather causes tree to fall on home of family of five in Little Rock
LITTLE ROCK, Ark – Last week’s severe weather left many families around the state in agony. The damaging winds, flash flooding and tornadoes wreaked havoc on countless homes and cars.
Denisha Thomas lives in Little Rock and is a mother of four, she said her family experienced some of that damage firsthand when Saturday’s severe weather caused a large tree to fall on her home.
“The weather looked like it was a dark white rain cloud that came through and before I could jump up, I heard the glass shatter and the tree come down on the house,” Thomas said.

Thomas said she knew her oldest son was safe in the back bedroom, which is why she ran to the bedroom her three youngest sons shared towards the front of the house.
“It was just chaotic, the ceiling came down,” Thomas said.
She said that her kids were found covered in insulation.
“My 12-year-old has a cut on his arm, my youngest son already had a knot forming on his head,” Thomas said.

When she and all of her boys finally made it out of the house, they saw just how many trees were down around them and noticed the flooding not too far away.
“I think we are blessed and I’m glad it didn’t come all the way down to them,” Thomas said. “I probably wouldn’t have had my three youngest boys if it did.”
Thomas says the house they just moved into a few months ago will now have to be torn down and she will have to get another car since it was damaged too.
“I felt like I was moving forward and getting situated and now I’m starting all over again from square one,” Thomas said.

However, she said not all hope is lost because she still has what is most important to her: her sons.
“I’m just hoping and believing that something better is in store for us,” Thomas said.
