has enjoyed a resurgence in recent years – with the likes of Rihanna and Bella Hadid leading the charge with their rare vintage styles, after former creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri reissued the bag on the runway back in 2022. But another archival style from the French fashion house – a sister bag to the Saddle – has received far less attention to date: the Gaucho.

First launched by John Galliano on the spring/summer 2006 runway, the cowboy-inspired design is more spacious than its sister style, while featuring the same saddle-shaped flap. “It’s super durable and the perfect everyday work horse,” Jackariaeh Francis, vintage collector and founder of Parisian Sweet, tells Vogue. “It’s cowboy western with the spirit of a riding saddle, finished in distressed calf leather.”

While other Noughties bags such as the Chloé Paddington and Mulberry Bayswater have seen a revival of late, the Gaucho has surprisingly stayed relatively under the radar – despite the likes of Kate Moss, Sienna Miller and Keira Knightley having all been photographed carrying the style in the Aughts (Moss even starred in Dior’s spring/summer 2006 campaign featuring the bag).

Of course, ever ahead of the game, Bella Hadid has been spotted carrying her own vintage Gaucho since 2021 – long before she fully embraced cowgirl style. Given the return of all things Noughties, we wouldn’t be surprised to see more stars carrying the bag in the months to come. Snap it up before the prices inevitably surge.
