"The Wells Favurrito" fails Jeff Nelson's taste test
The Yankees on Saturday introduced a breakfast burrito food item at Yankee Stadium. It was inspired by catcher Austin Wells, who has become an Instagram sensation by reviewing his favorite breakfast burritos.
Not everyone loved it, however.
Former Yankees reliever and current YES announcer Jeff Nelson tried “The Wells Favurrito” on camera during the broadcast of Saturday’s Yankees-Rays game.
“I did try it,” Nelson said. “I needed to dip in into the sauce.”
As Nelson paused while extensively chewing — was it a burrito or salt water taffy? — Michael Kay said: “That face tells it all. That’s not exactly a rave. That was not your favurrito.”
Said Nelson: “No. I’m glad it wasn’t a ‘flavurrito’ — didn’t have a whole lot of it.”
“Wow,” said Kay.
The Wells Favurrito, which was hand-selected by Wells from three candidates, consists of a flour tortilla, scrambled eggs, breakfast sausage, Maple City fries, cheddar jack cheese and chipotle aioli.
It is available at the Stadium during day games in sections 110, 217 and 321.
