The New Force political movement has issued a formal apology following a disturbing incident in which a member of its security detail physically assaulted a supporter during a recent public event.
A widely circulated video captured the moment when a supporter attempted to approach Nana Kwame Bediako, also known as Cheddar, the movement’s 2024 presidential candidate, during a funeral ceremony in Asante Mampong. The video shows a security guard aggressively attacking the unarmed man, sparking public outrage and demands for accountability.
In a statement signed by Charles Yomekpe, General Secretary of The New Force, the movement expressed deep regret over the incident and extended its "sincerest apologies to the victim and their family, and to all Ghanaians who rightly expect better conduct from those associated with our movement."
“No individual, supporter or otherwise, should ever be subjected to violence, especially in a democratic environment where engagement and expression are to be protected,” the statement read.
The New Force condemned the assault, describing the guard’s actions as "unacceptable, unjustifiable, and entirely out of line" with the values the movement claims to uphold. According to the statement, an immediate investigation has been launched, and the individual responsible will be held accountable both under the law and through internal disciplinary procedures.
“We are committed to restoring public confidence by ensuring that such behavior is never repeated,” the General Secretary added.
