'The Naked Gun' Trailer: Liam Neeson Proves David Zucker Shouldn't Compare It To Internet's Most Infamous Video

Published 6 hours ago3 minute read

If you had to choose between watching Liam Neeson’s upcoming movie, The Naked Gun, and the internet’s most infamous video, 2 Girls 1 Cup, most would choose the Liam Neeson film.

Well, of course, the comparison between the two is a little absurd, but this comparison was made by David Zucker, who was the original director of the Naked Gun films back in the 1980s and 90s. According to Zucker, some things aren’t meant to be seen by people, and Liam Neeson’s The Naked Gun just so happens to be one of them.

For people living under a rock, The Naked Gun was a film series starring Leslie Nielsen in the lead role. There were three movies, and Liam Neeson is out here with a remake of the movie called… The Naked Gun.

Created by writer Pat Proft and directed by David Zucker, the original films were very well received by the world for their wacky comedy and absurdity throughout these movies. However, Zucker isn’t too happy about the upcoming remake.

In an interview with TMZ (via Daily Mail), director David Zucker sat down to talk about his thoughts on the upcoming Liam Neeson remake of The Naked Gun. The director went on to say that he is not going to see the movie, although he saw the trailer, because “you can’t unsee that stuff”.

I never saw ‘Airplane 2’ because you can’t unsee that stuff. I’m not planning on seeing the ‘Naked Gun’ remake either. I regret having seen the trailer for it. It’s like watching ‘2 Girls 1 Cup.’ I can’t unsee it.

For those of you who might not know what 2 Girls 1 Cup is, don’t research that. It’s just bad. Trust me, I cannot unsee that either. Although Zucker compared the upcoming remake with 2 Girls 1 Cup, we disagree with the director.

Well, the trailer looks spot on with Liam Neeson (who’s often known for his serious roles) portraying a cop who actually doesn’t know what he’s doing. That’s what the original premise of the OG films was, and Neeson follows that beautifully.

The overtly stylized trailer, where Neeson starts punching bad guys, looks like your typical Liam Neeson movie until the hilarity starts. From scenes like Neeson wearing a young schoolgirl mask to growing to his normal size with a school uniform, to Neeson saying “Man’s laughter” instead of Manslaughter, make up for some of the finest scenes in the trailer.

Although it is true that the charm of the OG movies cannot be retained, that doesn’t mean we cannot pay tribute to them with a remake. That’s what Neeson did in The Naked Gun, as the film pays a funny homage to Leslie Nielsen’s character in one of the scenes.

Of course, director David Zucker may have had his fair share of complaints regarding the remake; however, we think that Liam Neeson’s The Naked Gun might do good in theaters. The world is in need of silly and stupid movies like these that once ruled theaters back in the 1990s and early 2000s.

is slated to release on 1 August 2025 in theaters (USA).
