The Black Star International Film Festival to hold 10th anniversary in September
Film is often said to “show, not tell,” and this year’s festival will do exactly that by giving attendees the platform to see the value chain of the film industry — meeting the people who make movies happen, from directors, producers, and writers to cinematographers, costume designers, makeup artists, lawyers, and many more.
According to the organisers, the film festival is a useful platform for young people exploring careers in film, as it highlights the wide range of opportunities available within the industry.
UNESCO identifies film as the largest employer in Africa’s creative economy. By showcasing its many roles and skill sets, BSIFF hopes to inspire new talent while giving audiences a deeper appreciation of the work behind the scenes.
The festival will also feature exclusive film screenings, with many titles showing for the very first time before their public release.
Attendees will have the chance to meet and interact with actors, directors, and producers, and take part in masterclasses led by top industry professionals—perfect for both seasoned practitioners and newcomers seeking to build their skills.
Earlier this month, BSIFF announced a 19 member global jury headed by Mr. Cecil Sunkwa-Mills, former Managing Director of MultiChoice Ghana and President of the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association.
