I wanted to know if this is a scam caller, they state their texting to have me remove old phone from find my phone. Sounds suspect. Will Apple contact me like this?

Even if you forgot to prepare your phone for trade-in and think the messages might be legit, I would assume they are Unless you have independently verified them with the people to whom you traded on the phone, using a known good contact method taken from these messages.

Hiw do you know that these messages are not from a thief who stole the phone in transit? You don’t!
