Suicide after Low UTME Score

Timilehin Faith Opesusi, a 19-year-old aspiring microbiology student, tragically died by suicide after expressing disappointment with her score of 190 on the 2025 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Opesusi, originally from Abeokuta but residing in Odogunyan, Ikorodu, Lagos State, ingested rodent poison following the release of the UTME results.
According to sources, Opesusi had taken the UTME the previous year and scored higher. A close friend mentioned that she felt her previous year's score was better. Alarmed neighbors reported that Opesusi sought palm oil at her sister's office, indicating she had ingested something harmful at home. Her sister's distress drew the attention of others in the area.
While en route to the hospital, Opesusi confessed to consuming poison before going to her sister's workplace. Despite efforts to save her, she died at Kolak Hospital in Odogunyan, Ikorodu. In a cruel turn of events, a provisional admission notification was sent to Opesusi's Gmail account a mere 30 minutes after her passing. Her parents, upon receiving the devastating news, traveled to Ikorodu and transported her body back to Abeokuta for burial.
Residents have voiced their discontent with JAMB, citing widespread failure in the 2025 results. The community mourns the loss of Opesusi, remembered by neighbors as “gentle and humble.”
