Veteran filmmaker Subhash Ghai, widely known as the ‘Showman of Bollywood,’ recently opened up about the new generation of filmmakers and writers during a podcast with veteran film trade analyst Komal Nahta. In an engaging discussion, Ghai expressed his admiration for cinema and also discussed about the current condition of Bollywood, while also offering valuable advice to budding writers in the industry.

Speaking highly of filmmaker Amar Kaushik, Ghai stated, “I love Amar Kaushik. I am not saying this because of the immense success of Stree 2. But honestly, when I watched the film, I felt like the filmmaker knows what he is doing. It definitely showed that he is quite knowledgeable.”

While acknowledging the growing talent pool of directors, Ghai refrained from naming more favourites, emphasizing fairness. “There are many good directors. I don't remember the name and also, if I play favourite - the others may feel bad. But I do agree that the current generation of writers are quite good, and I also like many of them,” he added.

However, Ghai, known for crafting some of Bollywood’s most memorable films, also had a crucial piece of advice for emerging writers. He emphasized that a well-written script is the backbone of any successful film, and directors must work hand in hand with writers to craft compelling narratives. He urged them to maintain high standards of storytelling and ensure their work connects with audiences across all demographics. “I have only one request to them - please respect writers. See that your standard of writing is 'first-class'. It should reach every corner - from villages to cities to metro cities. It should be a wholesome film,” he said.

His remarks point at reinforcing the importance of strong storytelling in filmmaking. As a veteran who has shaped Bollywood for decades, Ghai’s insights continue to serve as valuable guidance for the next generation of cinema creators.
