Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar has expressed his admiration for the phenomenal box office success of Stree 2, calling it an inspiring and empowering moment for the industry. The film, starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, shattered records by becoming one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of all time.

In a recent interview with film trade analyst Komal Nahta, Karan Johar praised the team behind Stree 2, emphasizing that its success proves that a film does not necessarily need a superstar-studded cast to dominate the box office. “I am happy when I see Stree 2 performing so well at the box office. I am so empowered, so inspired that a film that does not boast of a huge star cast with six superstars in it. Not like the biggest star of the country is in it. But it is all about the conviction of the producer and the director. More power to Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik. Everyone is fantastic—Rajkummar Rao, Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurrana. Shraddha Kapoor, outstanding. Lekin the real bravado is those two!” he said.

Directed by Amar Kaushik and produced by Dinesh Vijan, Stree 2 is a sequel to the 2018 horror-comedy Stree, which was also a commercial and critical success. The film's gripping narrative, strong performances, and unique blend of horror and humor resonated with audiences across India, leading to its massive box office haul.

Karan further highlighted the evolving dynamics of the film industry, stating that the role of producers has become more crucial than ever in shaping a movie’s fate. “I always say this is not the age just of the director or the star, it is the age of the producer. The way a project gets made, positioned, platformed, and released. Even the strategies used while you are releasing it at a particular time. These are all important aspects for the success of a film. It is the age of the studio and that of the producer,” he added.
