Storm downs trees, power lines in Montgomery County

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. () – Trees and power lines came down at several locations throughout Montgomery County on Thursday due to the winter weather.

DC News Now talked to some residents who were surprised to find the storm had caused as much damage as it did in some spots.

The sights were pretty common across the county, downed trees and power lines on or near roads. In one Bethesda neighborhood, a large branch fell from a tree, and in Potomac, it was a downed power line that led crews to block off Holbrook Drive.

George Stenko said he thought the storm would have brought more chaos.

“Honestly, I thought it would be a little worse. There was a lot of talk on social media about ice making the roads all dangerous, but it seems to be mostly rain,” Stenko said.

That’s why Stenko was surprised by what was left behind.

“It looks that bad right now,” he said. “I was definitely not expecting to see power lines down and roads closed off. I’m surprised.”

Besides the impact on neighborhood roads, the storm caused power outages for many people.
