Storm damages schools, staff quarters in Katsina
A rainstorm that hit the Funtua Local Government Area of Katsina State on June 22 has damaged several school buildings and staff quarters, according to the Katsina State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.
The Ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Sani Danjuma Suleiman, disclosed this in a statement on Monday. He said the storm affected educational institutions across the Funtua Senatorial Zone.
The statement read, “With profound sorrow and complete submission to the will of Almighty Allah (S.W.T), the Katsina State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education announces the devastating impact of a severe storm that struck the Funtua Senatorial Zone on the evening of June 22, 2025. The storm caused significant damage to school infrastructure and staff quarters across multiple educational institutions in the affected area.”
Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Zainab Musawa, expressed concern over the incident and extended sympathy to those affected.
She called for continued school operations despite the setback, urging management to sustain student attendance and academic activities.
Musawa also said the Ministry had begun assessing the level of destruction and would share further information on recovery plans.
She appealed for patience and noted that efforts were underway to support affected schools and staff.
The Ministry encouraged those seeking information to reach out to its Public Relations Office.
It added. “The Honourable Commissioner Hajiya Zainab Musa Musawa urges school management to ensure that the ongoing school activities continue, emphasising the importance of maintaining student attendance and academic continuity despite adversity.
