Stellantis looks to new CEO Filosa to reverse its flagging fortunes | Fleet Europe
The Board of Directors at Stellantis has unanimously selected Antonio Filosa (51) to be its new Chief Executive Officer. In the coming days, an Extraordinary Shareholder Meeting will elect Mr Filosa to serve as an executive director on the Board. From 23 June, he will assume full CEO powers.
Mr Filosa, an Italian, is expected to turn around the flagging performance of the world’s fourth-largest automotive manufacturer and reverse the downward slide of the company’s stock price, which has lost more than two thirds of its value since early 2024. Falling profits and sales, particularly in North America, led to the dismissal last December of Carlos Tavares, who had been CEO since the creation of Stellantis in 2021.
The Board selected Mr Filosa based on his track record of success during his more than 25 years with Stellantis, his global experience, his knowledge of the company, and his leadership qualities.
Mr Filosa holds a master’s degree in engineering from Politecnico di Milano, and an executive MBA in business administration from Fundação Dom Cabral in Brazil.
He joined Fiat, one of the constituent companies of Stellantis, in 1999. Over the years, he held roles of increasing responsibility.
The process to select Mr Filosa as new CEO was led by John Elkann, who will continue as interim CEO until Mr Filosa takes over on 23 June. In his new role, Mr Filosa will announce a new leadership team for Stellantis. Mr Elkann will continue as Executive Chairman.
“At a moment of transformation for the global automotive industry, Antonio Filosa has the knowledge, the experience, and the talent to lead Stellantis to new successes’”, says Nicolas Dufourcq, CEO of BPIFrance, a signficant stakeholder in Stellantis.
“It is my great honor to be named the CEO of this fantastic Company,” said Mr Filosa. “We have the world’s best and most iconic brands in automotive history and an over 100-year heritage of innovation. That legacy, combined with our relentless dedication to giving our customers the products and services they love, will continue to be key to our success.”
