There is confusion on the list of associations released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, seeking to register as political parties ahead of the 2027 elections.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, on Wednesday announced that 110 associations had indicated interest to register as political parties.

Among the associations published by INEC are the All Democratic Alliance, ADA, sponsored by the Nigeria National Coalition Group, NNCG, and Advanced Democratic Alliance, ADA.

Recall that the opposition coalition on June 20 wrote to the electoral umpire seeking to register the party.

The letter was signed by the Protem National Chairman, Akin A. Rickets, and Secretary Abdullahi Musa-Elayo.

Some of the promoters of the new party are former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, the League of Northern Democrats, among others.

But shortly after the release of the list, DAILY NIGERIAN observed that two associations were carrying the acronym of ADA.

While the coalition-led ADA appeared on number 109 on the list, the other group, Advanced Democratic Alliance, ADA, is listed on number 110.

The rival association has Ahmadu Suleiman and Zippora Pus Miracle as chairman and secretary, respectively.

It was unclear at the time of filing this report who the promoters of the rival group were, but there had been accusations of plots by the APC led federal government to cripple all opposition and impose a one-party state.

But President Bola Tinubu and his party have vehemently rejected it.
