Rio Breogan Lugo (Liga Endesa) signed 29-year-old former international 191cm shooting guard Francis Alonso (college: UNCG) for the upcoming season. Alonso, who played for Estudiantes in the Primera FEB for the past two years, averaged 9.3ppg, 1.7rpg, and 1.1apg in 38 games last season. He played a key role in helping Estudiantes reach the semifinals. Alonso's performance earned him a spot on the Eurobasket.com All-Spanish Primera FEB All-Domestic Players Team.
He was also a member of the Spanish international program for some years. Alonso played for the Spanish Senior National Team between 2020 and 2023 and previously for the Under 20 National Team back in 2016.
He also represented Spain at the FIBA World Cup 2023 European Qualifiers two years ago. His team won Gold and he averaged over 2 PPG.
Alonso has played previously for four other teams: Unicaja, Surne Bilbao, Fuenlabrada, and Oviedo.
He played in the final of Spanish LEB Oro Play-Off in 2024, among many awards. He was selected to Eurobasket.com Spanish LEB Gold All-Domestic Players Team in 2024.
Alonso graduated from UNCG in 2019 and it will be his 7th season in pro basketball.
