Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money- As the Prophecy Comes True Which Spaceballs Actors Are Returning
Break out your Schwartz, folks—because the prophecy that was clearly made as a joke is somehow coming true! 38 years back (or as Yogurt would say, “about ten thousand in merchandising years”), in the OG 1987 movie, Mel Brooks’ Yogurt had predicted the possibility of Spaceballs 2: The Search For More Money. And now, it seems the sequel is officially happening.
That’s right, the greatest cash-grab joke in cinematic history is now a very real, possibly still cash-grabby movie. Mel Brooks himself, the man, the myth, the Yogurt, is back—because let’s face it, if anyone’s gonna milk this franchise for laughs and merch, it’s him. He even teased it with a video—and guess what? Brooks isn’t coming alone.
Well, they finally did it. After almost four decades of waiting and quoting “May the Schwartz be with you”, Spaceballs 2 is officially launching into hyperspace. Yep, what started as a throwaway joke from Yogurt (Mel Brooks), has now turned into a real-life prophecy. Who knew Brooks wasn’t just messing around with the merch?
The original Spaceballs was released back in 1987 by MGM, spoofing everything from Star Wars and classics like 2001: A Space Odyssey, to our childhood innocence. It didn’t exactly rake in Yoda-level cash back then—earning $38.1M worldwide—but it became a cult classic after all, the plot was absolute sci-fi chaos (via The Numbers).
Evil Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis) and President Skroob (Mel Brooks) try to vacuum up Druidia’s air. Lone Starr (Bill Pullman), his half-man, half-dog sidekick Barf (John Candy), and Druish princess Vespa (Daphne Zuniga) stop them—with a whole lot of sarcasm, Schwartz, and suspiciously familiar sound effects.

And now, just as Yogurt once promised—“Lord willing, we will all return in Spaceballs 2: The Search For More Money”—the sequel is set to land in theaters in 2027 for the 40th anniversary. The official announcement came from the 98-year-old comedy legend who co-wrote, produced, and directed the original 1987 satire.
Mel Brooks posted a teaser clip on X, which he captioned: “I told you we’d be back”. Further, in the style of the famous Star Wars opening scroll, the teaser read a message: “Thirty-eight years ago, there was only one Star Wars trilogy…” Thereafter, it went on to mention the huge number of sequels and spin-offs released since then.
Mocking the films and television series set in the Stars Wars universe while also referencing Dune, Jurassic Park, Alien, Harry Potter and “36 MCU movies with two different Robert Downey Jr.” the video ended with Brooks saying “After 40 years we asked what do the fans want… but instead, we’re making this movie.”
So, buckle up, the sequel to Spaceballs is finally happening.
Now, we all know the 1987 OG Spaceballs movie became a cult classic because of the cast involved. So, now that the film is returning with a sequel, guess which cast members are coming back? Turns out, while Mel Brooks is certainly involved in the upcoming project, there are a few other OG actors possibly returning in the sequel.
According to reports from Deadline, Bill Pullman is back as Lone Starr, still rocking that galaxy-hitchhiking, Han Solo-but-goofier energy. And even Rick Moranis is set to make a rare return to the big screen as Dark Helmet. Yes, the man who weaponized insecurity and bad ventilation systems is ready for round two.
The duo will be welcomed by the 98-year-old Mel Brooks, who’s strapping on the Schwartz once again as Yogurt, the galaxy’s smallest, sassiest merch mogul. Meanwhile, there are also two new actors ready to join this intergalactic legacy—Keke Palmer and Bill Pullman’s son, fresh out of Thunderbolts* popularity, Lewis Pullman (via THR).

Although their roles are yet to be disclosed, one thing is sure—this sequel might just be the money-grabbing masterpiece we didn’t know we needed. Merchandising, merchandising, merchandising!
