Sokoto govt expresses readiness to negotiate with bandits
Sokoto State government has expressed its willingness to negotiate with bandits who are genuinely willing to surrender their arms.
Special Adviser to Governor Ahmed Aliyu on security matters, Ahmed Usman, disclosed this during an interaction with newsmen.
He emphasised the importance of negotiation to bring an end to the prolonged conflict.
He said: “We wholeheartedly welcome any development that promotes peace and security in our region.
“It’s important to recognise that, historically, many conflicts have ended not solely through force but through dialogue.
“In Sokoto, we’re open to engaging in negotiations with bandits who are genuinely willing to surrender and embrace peace.”
The governor also appreciated President Bola Tinubu, the service chiefs, security commanders, and frontline personnel for their unwavering efforts in safeguarding the region.
“Their sacrifices are deeply appreciated. May Allah bless the souls of our fallen heroes and grant comfort to their families,” the statement read.
Mr Usman also commended the federal government over the proposed deployment of forest guards across the region.
The state government stressed the importance of integrity and community trust in the recruitment process.
