SNEPCo urges indigenous firms to leverage opportunities in deepwater, shallow offshore projects
The Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo) has called on Nigerian companies to strategically position themselves to harness growing opportunities in its deepwater and shallow offshore oil and gas projects.
Managing Director of SNEPCo, Ronald Adams, made the call, yesterday, at the fifth edition of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Opportunity Fair (NOGOF), held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state.
The three-day NOGOF 2025, organised by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), is themed: ‘Driving Investment and Production Growth: Shaping a Sustainable Future for Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Industry Through Indigenous Capacity Development’.
Adams, who was represented by the Head of Supply Chain at SNEPCo, Charles Oranyeli, said upcoming projects such as Bonga South West Aparo, Bonga North, and the Bonga Main life extension, hold significant potential to boost local capacity and expand Nigerian companies’ technical capabilities.
“SNEPCo pioneered Nigeria’s deepwater frontier with the Bonga development as the first deepwater oilfield exploration and production venture in the country, our operations have greatly benefitted Nigerian businesses, and we expect them to get ready to take up more opportunities,” Adams stated.
He noted that Nigerian companies could upscale their skills and continue to offer services in logistics, drilling, fabrication, subsea manifold construction, mooring and loading systems, pressure vessels and provision of gas processing equipment in deep-water.
He added that opportunities also exist in procurement and civil works for shallow water projects.
Since commencing production at Bonga in 2005, SNEPCo has worked to grow the capacity of indigenous contractors and service providers by supporting workforce development and implementing robust systems aimed at delivering projects safely, efficiently, and within budget. These efforts, Adams said, have allowed Nigerian companies to play critical roles in the safe operations of the Bonga Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel, which marked a milestone with the production of its one-billionth barrel of oil on February 3, 2023.
“SNEPCo sees Nigerian content development as a business driver and not a regulatory requirement and will continue to support our companies to play even bigger roles in their support for oil and gas operations,” he added.
SNEPCo as one of the sponsors of the event, reiterates its contributions to national economic growth and community development through a dedicated exhibition booth.
