Sitaare Zameen Par Sparks Controversy: Exploitation of Disabled?
Sitaare Zameen Par is now in theaters, and everything is happening contrary to what Aamir Khan had expected.
Despite being a weekend release with no clashes, the film received a lukewarm response at the box office on its first day with collections around 10 crores. There was a huge 100% jump on second day but many trade analysts believe that the collections are aided by corporate and block bookings.

Right after the film hit the theaters, social media started buzzing with reviews, personal opinions, and debates over how the film feels.
The sentiment that resonated with most people was, sadly, how the film doesn’t have the same impact as its spiritual prequel, Taare Zameen Par.

When TZP was released back in 2007, it marked a social and cultural shift in Bollywood. A simple, heartfelt story that resonated with the entire nation.
However, with Sitaare Zameen Par, the audience is skeptical. Fans on the internet are sharing their concerns that the film doesn’t quite capture the essence of the original.

In a heartfelt post, one user stated the film may be exploiting the child actors and their disabilities to revive Aamir Khan’s career slump.
He explained that maybe kids and the community might like it, and we’d have to wait for them to review it. But that’s the point; TZP didn’t have a niche audience; it was for everybody.
This formula had already failed with Aamir during Lal Singh Chaddha, yet he seems to have made the same mistake again for a film that had great potential to create actual impact.
While this isn’t the sentiment at large, it has started a discussion. Some fans argue that the storytelling, music, and honesty in the first film aren’t trying to tell us how we should feel; they just make us feel that.
For now, the audience has adopted the “let’s wait and see” approach, eagerly waiting to see how the film is received before drawing any more final conclusions.
The film needs 120 crores net collections in India to be called a success. If it has to be termed as a Hit it needs to collect somewhere around 150 crores.
If the film sustains after the weekend and maintains a steady run for a few weeks, then it can be said Aamir succeeded in making a mini comeback with SZP.
