Simon Guobadia Breaks Silence on Divorce from Porsha Williams

Nigerian businessman Simon Guobadia has broken his silence for the first time since his deportation to Nigeria and the finalization of his contentious divorce from reality TV star Porsha Williams. Released from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention on June 10, Mr. Guobadia faced a legal battle that culminated in a judge upholding a prenuptial agreement, a ruling he vehemently intends to appeal, even to the Supreme Court if necessary. This decision dictates that Ms. Williams will receive $40,000 per month in alimony for 14 to 15 months, totaling up to $560,000, and have her legal fees paid by her ex-husband. Additionally, she is granted the right to reside in their Atlanta mansion rent-free for up to three years, with the option to refinance it in her name while giving him 50% equity.

Ms. Williams initiated divorce proceedings in February 2024, just 14 months into their marriage, a move that reportedly blindsided Mr. Guobadia. In an interview with Page Six, he claimed his ex-wife never provided a cogent reason for their separation, stating, “I kept asking, ‘Why did you file for a divorce?’ And she wouldn’t say anything. This felt like a coup. I was blindsided.” He also revealed failed attempts to contact her family and felt that she never shared concerns before filing. Conversely, Ms. Williams told People that she had hired an immigration attorney in January 2024 after uncovering “complex” issues with Mr. Guobadia’s legal status, noting she felt the relationship was “headed down a dark road” and that she needed to protect herself and her daughter. She clarified that the split was not due to infidelity.

Mr. Guobadia, currently in Doha, Qatar, expressed “absolute regret” over the marriage, believing he was “targeted from day one for financial reasons.” He recounted how Ms. Williams was in his DMs “praying for me” after he filed for divorce from his previous wife, Falynn Pina, a former ‘RHOA’ co-star. He admitted to being vulnerable and “out of his mind” for getting engaged in 30 days, calling the marriage a “$5 million rehab project” for which he is now “paying dearly.” Despite his strong feelings, Ms. Williams has stated she is now “at peace” with how everything transpired, acknowledging she is “done fantasizing about what it could have been.”

In the aftermath of the divorce and deportation, both parties are moving forward. Ms. Williams has returned to ‘The Real Housewives of Atlanta’ for Season 16 and is part of the upcoming season of ‘The Traitors.’ Mr. Guobadia, on the other hand, has launched a T-shirt campaign with slogans like “FREE SIMON” and “NO ICE THIS SUMMER,” with proceeds intended for prison reform causes. He has also filed a defamation suit against Ms. Williams, seeking $75,000 in damages over alleged false and harmful claims. This complex marital dissolution highlights the intricate personal and legal challenges faced by public figures.
