Sylvia Ogola had made an online plea for help after her late husband’s family mistreated her and her children.

The mother of five, in a Facebook post shared by Ndungu Nyoro, revealed that her sons had been arrested over claims that they had fought with one of their late father’s relatives.

As a result, the two teenagers, John and Roney, were unable to attend school but hoped to resume their studies so they could one day lift their mother out of poverty.

Nyoro reported that following the distraught woman’s plea, well-wishers raised enough money to admit the two boys back to school—one in Form Three and the other in Form Two.

“When this widow recorded the video, she had reached her breaking point. She didn't know what to do to get her two school-going sons out of police cells, where they had been held for weeks. I am here to report that, through your generosity, the two boys, John and Roney, will be reporting to a new school tomorrow morning,” stated the philanthropist.

Sylvia lost her husband to brain cancer in June 2012, after which her in-laws began making her life unbearable.

She explained that the family wanted her and her children to leave the homestead, but she refused.

However, the humiliation, mistreatment, and fights continued, forcing her to seek intervention from the area chief, who warned the family against evicting her.

On one occasion, while she was away from home, her husband’s relatives threw her belongings out and demolished her house, leaving her homeless.

She then rented a mabati house at a nearby shopping centre, where she placed her two school-going children so they could continue their education, while the younger ones stayed with her in Kisumu, where she was struggling to make ends meet.

After enduring numerous hardships, she visited Nyoro's office in Nairobi and sought help from Kenyans and to have her boys return to school.

The mother of five said the battle with her in-laws had become overwhelming, and she could no longer fight alone.

Anyone willing to support this family can do so via Paybill number 4029363, Account: Masomo, or through M-Pesa at 0757 788 849 (Dianah Kamande).

Previously, reported that well-wishers raised KSh 80,000 to help a middle-aged woman pay off a loan she had taken to cover her daughter’s school fees.

Ciru Muthoni had used her title deed as collateral and faced the risk of auction after struggling to repay the loan.

The mother of three expressed her joy after Karangu Muraya rallied his fans and followers to raise the amount for her.
