Creating timeless pieces that transcend trend, with design approach characterised by the creative ability to infuse traditional Nigerian influences with contemporary aesthetics, Ben Sonia’s signature, under the fashion brand name, ‘Shop Stab’, features modern silhouettes, subtle prints, and unexpected details that add a touch of sophistication to each design and collections .

With styles that blend modern cuts and African inspiration, emphasising detail, fit and sophistication, Shop Stab series of collections basically lies in personalisation, quality craftsmanship, and storytelling. Each piece is thoughtfully created to reflect the wearer’s essence and heritage.

The talented 25-year-old Nigerian fashion designer with innovative designs and impeccable craftsmanship discovered her love for fashion at a young age under the guidance of her grandfather.

Raised in Lagos, Sonia’s creative journey began with fashion illustrations in 2013. While pursuing a bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science from Babcock University, Sonia nurtured her passion for fashion and honed her skills in pattern drafting.

Despite her science background, Sonia’s creative spirit and exceptional dressmaking skills set her apart, fueling her ambition to make a mark in the fashion industry.

In a meet and greet gathering of fashion lovers and creatives alike recently in Lagos, Sonia spoke about Shop Stab and what the brand represents in the fashion industry. “My brand represents elegance, culture, and individuality. We focus on creating timeless pieces that capture different personalities with a contemporary twist especially for women who want to look powerful, graceful, and unique.

“At Shop Stab, we believe that fashion can and should be both stylish and sustainable. This is why we create clothes that are not only beautiful but also kind to the planet. By using sustainable materials and production methods, we can help to preserve our environment for future generations.

“This conscious eco-friendliness in our production ethics is one of the reasons we are accessing the fashion industry beyond Nigeria and Africa. Presently, we have a deal ongoing to expand business to Australia and this is in the process of being registered.”
