Weekly Film Music Roundup (May 23, 2025)

Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the live-action reimagining of Disney’s animated feature directed by Dean Fleischer Camp and starring Maia Kealoha, Sydney Elizebeth Agudong, Hannah Waddingham, Courtney B. Vance, Billy Magnussen, Chris Sanders, Tia Carrere and Zach Galifianakis. The film’s original music composed by  (Station Eleven, LucaSuperman & LoisBeasts of the Southern Wild, ManiacBeasts of No NationThe Good Doctor). Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as several songs this past Wednesday. Also opening wide is the action sequel co-written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie and starring Tom Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Esai Morales, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Henry Czerny, Pom Klementieff, Holt McCallany, Mariela Garriga, Janet McTeer, Nick Offerman, Hannah Waddingham, Shea Whigham and Angela Bassett. (The Ice Road, Crawl, Lansky, Mech Cadets, iBoy) and  (Marching Powder, A Town Called Malice) have composed the film’s original music. Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today. La-La Land Records will release a CD version and Mutant will release a double vinyl edition. Also opening nationwide is the drama co-written and directed by Jon Avnet and starring Neal McDonough, Derek Presley, Sarah Jones, Mykelti Williamson, Christopher McDonald and Daylon Swearingen. The film’s original music is composed by  (Fargo, Ripley, Star Trek: Discovery Picard, The Umbrella Academy,  Zero Day, LegionThe Night Of). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today. Opening in select U.S. theaters this weekend before expanding nationwide next Friday, May 30, is the French romantic comedy  (Jane Austen a gâché ma vie) written and directed by Laura Piani and starring Camille Rutherford, Pablo Pauly and Charlie Anson. (Vanishing Waves, Ladygrey, Ravens) has composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release. The movie, which follows aspiring author who takes up a writing residency and finds herself in the sort of romantic entanglements that could come from the pages of a Jane Austen novel, premiered at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival and is being released stateside by Sony Pictures Classics.

Also opening in select U.S. theaters today before coming out on VOD next Friday, May 30, is the Australian drama written and directed by Warwick Thornton and starring Cate Blanchett, Aswan Reid, Deborah Mailman and Wayne Blair. & (The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert FordHell or High Water, Dahmer: Monster – The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, BlondeThe Road) have composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced.
