K-pop star Shim Jaehyun has died aged 23 after a battle with leukemia.
The singer was a former member of the group F.able, which debuted in 2020 and officially disbanded three years later.
The news of his death was confirmed to Star News on July 2 by a source, as per Soompi.
The source said, "I believe the funeral was held today, and the [F.able] members and bereaved family members went to the burial to send off the deceased together."
Shim's fellow former member Hojun also posted a tribute for the late star on Instagram the day prior.
"Jaehyun, I heard the news too late," he wrote, "I'm so sorry that I wasn't able to see you off on your final journey…
"I hope that you shake off all your worries and only live comfortably there. I was grateful to you during the time of approximately five years [that we spent together]… please visit me in my dreams."
Fans also posted tributes in the comments of his Instagram posts, with one writing, "Thank you for bringing me so much joy with other members you'll be remembered by me forever ."
Another penned, "Hope you will be healthier and happier in another life ."
F.able debuted five years ago under Haeirum Entertainment with their debut single Burn It Up. This was followed by Run Run Run, Baby Don't Cry, and Cloud 9, before the group disbanded in 2023.
Three members reformed into a new group called ENPHAZE, while Jaehyun stepped back from the public eye.
He is reported to have intentionally kept his illness private leading up to his death.
According to the Mayo Clinic, leukemia is a "cancer of the body's blood-forming tissues, including the bone marrow and the lymphatic system.
"In people with leukemia, the bone marrow produces an excessive amount of abnormal white blood cells, which don't function properly."
