Seymore Thomas Dewtie was born to the late Joe and Rose (Burke) Dewtie on the first day of spring, March 20, 1953. He passed away in Palliative Care in the Aberdeen Hospital on June 2, 2025.
After residing in Plymouth then Coalburn, Seymore and his wife Anne built their home on Irish Mountain forty years ago, among the best neighbors anyone could have.
Seymore was self-employed as a truck driver for 35 years. This led to regular Sunday family drives into every backwoods road so he would know where to go for his first load on Monday morning. He also had a successful firewood business. He gave up both in 2008 and tried a stint in Fort McMurray but didn’t like being away from home. Seymore then ran his own tree removal service and worked for Gerald Battist Trucking Ltd., Blane F MacLane Excavation Ltd., and Robert Meyer Excavation Ltd. He ended his working career due to illness in December 2024.
Seymore is survived by his wife Anne (MacNeil) Dewtie; son Jonah (Tracy) Dewtie, Linacy; son Tom (Margie) Dewtie, Stellarton; daughter Amy (Robert) Meyer, Bridgeville; granddaughter Jana (Travis) and their blended family Delilah, Ryder, Rhett, Emmett and Miya; granddaughters Catherine (Nick), Chassi and Carolina; grandsons Rigsby and Memphis; and step granddaughter Leslie.
Also survived by sisters Joanne (Fred); Kenda; and Margaret Anne (Buddy); brothers John (Shirley); Frank (Margaret); George (Darlene); Art, and the most amazing nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents Joe and Rose, he was predeceased by Anne’s parents Mike and Ev MacNeil; brothers Francis, Billy, Wallace, and sister Sylvia Orr.
Seymore leaves behind his travelling buddies Richard, Randy, and Morgan, his co-worker and friend Farmer John, his 5AM weekend coffee friend Jimmy, and his friends John Campbell and Frank Boudreau who helped him out so many times. Seymore often commented on how lucky he was to have such good friends, even though some of them are not Montreal Canadiens fans.
Seymore was a long-term supporter of the Progressive Conservative Party, and he took great pride in being a member of the St. Ann’s Cemetery Committee in Thorburn. He was also an inactive member of the #30 I.O.O.F Springville Union Lodge since October 12, 1997.
The family would like to thank the amazing nurses in the Palliative Care department; Doctor Farrell; the Oncology Team at the Aberdeen Hospital; Nurse Practitioner Paul Cameron; and David MacLean and staff at Pharmacy First.
Visitation to take place Monday June 9th from 3PM – 7PM at H.W. Angus Funeral Home Ltd. New Glasgow. Funeral Service led by Sam Graham will be held Tuesday June 10 at 11AM at H.W Angus Funeral Home with committal service immediately following at St Ann’s Cemetery, Thorburn.
