Seth Rogen's 'Platonic': Season 2: Release Date, Cast, Plot, Trailer, and All You Need To Know
Created by Francesca Delbanco & Nicholas Stoller, Platonic is a comedy series starring Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne, Luke Macfarlane, and more. The ten-episode series explores the inner workings of a platonic friendship as former friends reconnect as adults and try to mend the rift that led to their falling out. The show, upon release, received a lot of support and love from the audience and was renewed for a second season.
After a successful debut season for The Studio, Seth Rogen is back to being best friends with Rose Byrne for season two of Platonic. The series also marks Rogen reuniting with Byrne and Stoller, with whom he had worked in the Neighbors movie franchise. Here’s everything we know about Platonic Season 2.
After more than a year of Apple TV+’s announcement that Platonic has been renewed for season two, the streaming giant has finally revealed the date for season 2’s premiere. The second season of the comedy series returns to the screens on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. Apple TV+ dropped a short teaser and pictures from the upcoming season to announce the date.

The first two episodes will be released together on the premiere day, with one episode rolling out each Wednesday. With the show set with a ten-episode arc, the finale episode is set to release on October 1, 2025.
As the leading pair and the ones driving the story, Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne are set to return as Will and Sylvia. Apart from them, Carla Gallo, Luke Macfarlane, Tre Hale, and Andrew Lopez are also set to return to reprise their characters for season two. Interestingly, new faces that will be seen in the upcoming season are Aidy Bryant, Kyle Mooney, and Beck Bennett.

Rogen and Byrne had played spouses in Neighbors, which was released in 2014, followed by a sequel in 2016. Byrne, in her interview with People magazine, mentioned that playing best friends in Platonic after playing spouses on-screen was ‘different.’ She said,
The dynamic is just intuitive. And we realized that day one, like, ‘Oh, yeah, all right. We can do these things, but we can’t do these things. It was an opportunity to discover different ways to find the comedy.
The actress noted that the show lives and dies on the friendship and the chemistry the two characters, Will and Sylvia, share.
According to reports by Collider, Season 2 picks up with the duo as they contend with new mid-life hurdles, including work, weddings, and partners in crises. Will and Sylvia try their best to be each other’s rock in the second season, but sometimes rocks break things.

Towards the end of season one, the audience witnessed a one-year time jump with Will relocating to San Diego for a job. He returned for Andy and Katie’s wedding and was engaged to Jenna, played by Rachel Rosenbloom. Sylvia, on the other hand, was known to be the owner of a successful event planning company.
Seth Rogen spoke to THR in December and shared that they’ve had a talk about doing more during the filming of season one. He does get nervous about how the limited series is going to be received, but he noted that he is not a count-your-eggs-before-they-hatch guy.
Rogen, who recently wrapped up a successful season of The Studio and will be back for season two, shared with the publication that there was a time when he’d go around on Friday night of opening weekend for his movies and go to theaters and see no one in them. He added,
I really just wanted to see if we were happy with it when it came out—and if everyone else was happy with it. I was kind of nervous about how high my standards were for what we were doing, and I wanted to make sure that we could actually do it. And then once I saw that we could, I was like, Ok, we should keep doing it.
The creators of the show, Nick Stoller and his wife, Francesca Delbanco, shared with the publication that Season 2 will not include any romantic storyline between Will and Sylvia.
The highly awaited season two of Platonic does not have a full trailer just yet, but Apple TV+ did release a short teaser featuring Rogen and Bryne. What are the two best friends up to? The teaser begins with Will and Sylvia riding on the back of a golf cart.
Bryne’s Sylvia refuses to pick the club, as she says, ‘Oh no, not me. I’ve never held one of these. I don’t even know why I’m here.’ Whereas Rogen’s Will steps up to take a swing and sends the ball flying into the eye of a fellow golfer. The teaser shows off more of their signature mix of raunch, heart, and awkward adult friendship.

Rose Byrne had spoken to Collider earlier this year, where she mentioned that she had just finished filming season two of Platonic with Seth Rogen again, so it was lovely to work with him again.
She added that working on the second season of Platonic made her think of the scripts because it’s such a different process with comedy, and it’s always evolving and is very fluid in a way that they work on such shows.
