Seohyun And Taecyeon Talk About Their Off-Screen Bond, Most Memorable Scenes From "The First Night With The Duke," And More | Soompi

Girls’ Generation’s Seohyun and 2PM’s Taecyeon, the stars of the upcoming drama “The First Night With The Duke,” came together for a pictorial and interview with Esquire Korea!

Following a photo shoot inspired by their drama, the two actors sat down for an honest conversation.

After briefly touching on their hobbies—Seohyun enjoys playing the piano, while Taecyeon has an interest in cooking—the conversation shifted to their off-screen dynamic. When asked if they were previously close, Seohyun explained, “Rather than being close, we were more like acquaintances who exchanged greetings now and then. Back when I was promoting on music shows, I was the youngest in my group and much quieter than I am now, so I found it hard to approach other groups. “

Taecyeon added, “I had seen her face a lot, so I internally felt a sense of familiarity, but we’d never really had a proper conversation before.”

They went on to reflect on how their impressions of each other changed during filming. “She’s completely different from the Seohyun I remember,” Taecyeon remarked. “She used to seem very quiet and shy, but now she’s confident and strong.”

Seohyun also said, “Though we’d never spoken personally, I’d heard from the other Girls’ Generation members that he was a gentle and nice person. So I wasn’t worried at all before filming; I was actually looking forward to it. As you probably noticed during the photo shoot earlier, he’s extremely focused when needed, but also playful and full of energy in moments in between.”

The compliments didn’t stop there. Seohyun went on, “[Taecyeon] has such great energy. I think viewers will definitely feel that too. Even when he wasn’t being filmed by the camera, he stayed in character and kept up his energy so that his co-stars could remain fully immersed in the scene. I especially admired the sincerity in his gaze. Despite having so much to focus on with his acting, he also brought a great atmosphere to the set, like a real mood-maker, and I was very grateful.”

Taecyeon also had high praise for Seohyun’s performance. “Her character Cha Sun Chaek is very complex and not easy to portray, since she’s the only character who time-travels from the modern world to the past. I was curious to see how she’d bring it to life after reading the script and the original webtoon. But she exceeded my expectations—honestly, I was pretty impressed.”

When asked about the most memorable scenes during filming, Taecyeon hesitated to give too much away. “The fireworks scene… well, talking about it might be a spoiler. The battle scenes were also memorable, but since the drama hasn’t aired yet, I can’t go into too much detail.”

Seohyun, on the other hand, shared a moment that stood out in her memory. “Given the title of the drama, the scene where we spend our first night together definitely stands out in my memory,” she said. “It’s a pivotal moment in the storyline, so everyone on set put in a lot of effort to get it right.”

When asked how they prepared to film the period drama, Taecyeon explained, “Since it’s a fusion historical drama, the acting style is more flexible compared to traditional period pieces. Personally, I find the archaic language style easier in some ways.”

Seohyun added, “Interestingly, my character doesn’t use period language at all, since she comes from the present. On a slightly different note, we wore hanbok [traditional Korean clothing] throughout filming. We shot from fall through spring, so it got really cold, but what’s great about hanbok is that you can wear tons of thermal layers underneath without anyone noticing.”

Seohyun and Taecyeon’s full pictorial and interview can be found in the June issue of Esquire Korea. Meanwhile, “The First Night with the Duke” will premiere on June 11 at 9:50 p.m. KST.
