Security heightened as Homa Bay gears up for Madaraka Day
Homa Bay County is fully prepared to host this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations at the refurbished Raila Odinga Stadium, Nyanza Regional Commissioner Flora Mworoa has confirmed.
Mworoa said the stadium, which has a capacity of 12,000, has been renovated to international standards through a partnership between the National Government and the County Government of Homa Bay.
“We are fully set to host the country for this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations at Raila Odinga Stadium,” Mworoa said. “Those who will attend will see for themselves the quality of renovations done.”
As part of the infrastructure upgrades, a state-of-the-art state lodge has also been constructed in the county to accommodate dignitaries.
In addition, the roads within Homa Bay Town have undergone major improvements to enhance traffic flow.
“We have been able to grade and upgrade roads within the town to bitumen standards,” she said. “We now have a dual carriageway from Mbita diversion all the way to the stadium to ensure people do not experience difficulty as they come to Homa Bay County.”
Mworoa added that a comprehensive traffic plan has been put in place, including designated parking areas in nearby institutions to avoid congestion.
“The Raila Odinga Stadium has a capacity of 12,000 and we are expecting more than that number. We have therefore identified Homa Bay Secondary School as a holding ground for those who may not be able to access the stadium,” she stated.
Mworoa urged those attending the celebrations to cooperate with security personnel who will be on the ground to maintain order.
“My clarion call is to request the attendees to cooperate with the security agents. We have deployed enough security officers in ensuring that the crowd is controlled,” she said.
The theme for this year’s Madaraka Day is Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs.
