Secret Police DSS Operatives 'Abduct' Lecturer In Ekiti After Sister Reported Sexual Harassment Against FUOYE VC | Sahara Reporters
The incident is linked to allegations of sexual harassment levelled against Fasina by Engineer Mrs. Adebayo, the sister of the abducted man.
Opertives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have abducted Dr. Samuel Oyeyemi Agbeleoba on the alleged orders of Prof Sunday Fasina, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Ekiti State.
The incident is linked to allegations of sexual harassment levelled against Fasina by Engineer Mrs. Adebayo, the sister of the abducted man.
Sources familiar with the matter claim that Agbeleoba’s abduction was orchestrated to intimidate his sister, who had accused the vice-chancellor of persistent sexual advances and harassment.
“This is an attempt to silence Adebayo," said a source at FUOYE who requested anonymity for fear of reprisals.
“If true, it shows a disturbing pattern of using state security agencies to cover up misconduct.”
A source told SaharaReporters that the DSS officers raided Agbeleoba’s house around 10pm on Tuesday in a Gestapo-style operation.
"They jumped through the fence and forcefully opened the entrance gate while the dog was barking.
"They manhandled him, searched all his rooms, and seized his two phones and laptop while his wife and children cried. They also recorded videos of his room and belongings," the source said.
A family member told SaharaReporters on Wednesday that they received a distress call from Agbeleoba’s wife, informing them that armed men had invaded their house.
"We rushed to his house and discovered that he had been abducted. When we tried to follow them to see where they were taking him, the officers blocked our car, hit us, and threatened to shoot us.
"We, however, managed to trail them and later saw that they went straight to the DSS command office. They refused to grant us access to him," the family member added.
Meanwhile, another source on Monday had told SaharaReporters that FUOYE Vice-Chancellor Fasina was trailing Agbeleoba.
He said, "Fasina asking questions about me everywhere, And everyone is advising me to be careful security-wise. That I was the one responsible for the media report since I'm a reporter.
"The DSS officers have been paid by Fasina. How can they arrive overnight like armed robbers to abduct Agbeleoba, who has nothing to do with Fasina?
"Are we safe in this country if the so-called intelligence agency operates like kidnappers? They should tell us his offence. Fasina, who sexually harassed a married woman, should be the one arrested.
"We are calling on President Bola Tinubu to quickly come to our aid in Ekiti. Fasina has turned himself into a demigod, even bragging that not even Tinubu can sack him from his position," the source added.
On January 23, 2025, SaharaReporters reported that the Vice Chancellor of Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof Fasina was implicated in a leaked audio recording allegedly showing him sexually harassing Engineer Folasade Adebayo, a married deputy director at the university’s Directorate of Works and Services.
In the recorded phone conversation obtained by SaharaReporters, Fasina is heard professing his emotions to Adebayo, describing her as someone "so dear" to his heart.
“Marriage is by chance,” Fasina stated in the recording, further adding, “You are the only right person to confide in, in and out.”
He also claimed his feelings for her were deep and consuming, likening them to something "eating deeply" into him.
Meanwhile, in September 2024, when SaharaReporters contacted the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Fasina, to inquire about the allegations of sexual harassment, he reportedly threatened our correspondent on the phone.
He said, "Young man, be very careful. You are showing interest in a matter that doesn't concern you.
"Don't be a judge in your own case, and you have become very insulting. Don't go too far. Don't go too far. You have become rude to the university. If you have an interest in a case, this is not how to go about it.
"Don't begin to interfere in a matter that does not concern you. Come on, get out, my friend," the Vice Chancellor added.
On November 30, 2024, SaharaReporters reported that the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) at the Federal University Oye Ekiti branch, had petitioned the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, urging him to take immediate action to address allegations of sexual harassment, victimisation, and other governance irregularities at the institution.
In a letter signed by SSANU Chairman, Benjamin Faleye, and the branch secretary, Ayomikun Aluko, the union detailed troubling accusations against the Vice Chancellor, Prof Abayomi Fasina, including claims of sexual harassment and victimisation brought forward by Engr. Mrs. F. Adebayo, the former Director of the Works and Services Unit.
According to the petition, Adebayo alleged that she was subjected to harassment and later victimised after resisting advances from the Vice-Chancellor.
The union disclosed that Adebayo initially reported the incident in February 2024 and that her family sent a follow-up letter in October 2024, reiterating their call for action.
Both communications were attached to SSANU’s petition for the minister's review.
SSANU also raised concerns about Prof. Fasina’s leadership style, alleging abuse of office, financial mismanagement, and failure to comply with university service schemes.
They alleged that qualified non-teaching staff were being overlooked in favour of teaching staff for leadership roles in non-teaching units, contrary to established regulations.
