Scott McTominay should be cloned say Italian media as Scotland hero breaks Gazza record - Football Scotland

Published 1 month ago2 minute read

A superb double saw Scott McTominay take his Napoli goal tally to nine - with calls in the Italian media for the midfielder to be CLONED.

The 60 time Scotland cap started alongside Billy Gilmour as Antonio Conte's men swept beyond an Empoli side featuring Liam Henderson 3-0 - with McTominay also named man of the match. And that took him to eight Serie A goals for 2024-25 so far, bettering a career best tally of seven whilst at Manchester United.

And iconic sports paper La Gazzetta dello Sport were big with their praise, dubbing McTominay the ‘Lord of the midfield’ and even suggesting Napoli should be cloning him to boost their title chances. The double also saw McTominay overtake English legend Paul Gascoigne in the all-time Serie A scoring charts.

McTominay's experience of La Dolce Vita is showing little sign of slowing down, as he showed his new fans plenty of love in an interview for Serie A. The 28-year-old said: "“In almost every game we see the fans before and after the game, it gives you an extra boost. It brings out that fire that every player should have inside them to play at the highest level at all times.

"And for us, if a game goes really well we are very grateful because it is a satisfaction for the fans and we know how much it means to them. But even when a game doesn't go well we look inside ourselves thinking that we have to give more. We have to be as passionate as the people who follow us and this is something you can carry with you throughout your career.

"The passion of the Neapolitan fans is incredible. To be honest, it is something I had never seen before. I loved them.

"From the moment I arrived at the airport I was shocked by how incredible and passionate the people were and it was almost as if they were there to see me. It was surprising, but fantastic. I have only love and gratitude for them.”
