BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — At least 13 passengers were injured when a school bus overturned on the Garden State Parkway in Montvale on Monday night, shutting lanes, officials said.

Montvale Mayor Mike Ghassali wrote on Facebook on Monday night, "One serious injury. 31 total occupants on the bus heading to New York. 13 transported to local hospitals."

Ghassali referred additional questions to the New Jersey State Police.

Various media outlets said the bus overturned near Exit 171. The New York Times reported that the accident occurred around 7:40 p.m. Monday, and that the bus was heading from Lakewood to Rockland County.

The New York Post said a child was the one seriously injured.

Late on Monday night, NJ511 reported that one lane of the Parkway remained closed in that area.
