The book reached #1 on Amazon's "New Release in Teen and Young Adult Social Activist Biographies" list since its publication in May.

Brooks is the founder of ScholarCHIPS, Inc., a nonprofit that provides college scholarships, mentoring, and support to children of incarcerated parents. Since its launch in 2010, the organization has awarded over $600,000 in scholarships to over 100 scholars across the country, and earned Brooks recognition as a CNN Hero in 2023.
