Scarlett Johansson recently opened up about her cockroach phobia while discussing her role in the upcoming film Jurassic World Rebirth. During an interview with TODAY.com, the actress revealed that filming on location brought her face-to-face with this dreaded insect.
Johansson admitted that heights didn’t bother her much, even while scaling a steep wall for the movie. However, encounters with insect was a different story. She said, “The heights is not, like, my greatest phobia. My greatest phobia is cockroaches, and there were plenty of those, too – but not on the abseiling wall.” According to her, Thailand was home to “some pretty serious creature critters.”
The actress also highlighted a moment that involved finding a scorpion near the coffee station. She explained, “You’d be making coffee at the coffee table and then two minutes later (someone would say), ‘You know what they just found at the coffee table? They just got a scorpion.’ And you’re like, ‘What!?’ Like, I was just making myself a coffee right there.”
Despite the encounters with jungle insects, Johansson called her role in Jurassic World Rebirth a dream come true. She said joining the iconic dinosaur franchise had been a goal since childhood. “It was a childhood dream of mine to be in this movie,” Johansson said, sharing that she saw the original Jurassic Park in theaters at age 10 and was instantly captivated. She explained, “Like the entire audience, I was completely transfixed, mesmerized, carried away, terrified, all of that stuff, and it’s part of the formative part of my childhood.”
In Jurassic World Rebirth, Johansson plays Zora Bennett, a mercenary who leads a team of specialists on a high-stakes mission to retrieve dinosaur DNA from a forbidden island. Filming of the movie took place in exotic global locations such as Malta and Thailand.
