Satellite event: Drawing Our Future: CLI-MIC's Innovative Approach to Climate Education and Action

Published 1 day ago3 minute read

We will be presenting CLI-MIC, an Erasmus+ project that promotes climate action through the use of comics as an innovative educational tool in secondary schools. Within a STEAM framework, the project aims to merge science and creativity, encouraging students to reflect on their role as changemakers and build their critical thinking, agency and ecological awareness.

During CLI-MIC networking event we will provide a workshop combining a short theoretical introduction to CLI-MIC’s pedagogical foundations with interactive activities inspired by its teaching materials, offering participants a hands-on taste of how comics can be used to engage learners in climate education. The goal is to move from knowledge to action, making climate education emotionally resonant and socially impactful. In fact, at Area Europa, we are committed to supporting European educators in adopting non-formal methods that make sustainability education more dynamic, engaging, and action-oriented.

It is important to note that a similar workshop approach was carried out for CLI-MIC during the EU Climate Pact conference in March, since one of our consortium members is a EU Climate Pact Ambassador. It was also a hands-on workshop. Now it is an opportunity to replicate some of this in Italy. It was called "Drawing solutions: Art and comics for climate action Workshop** Arts and comics are powerful tools to inspire and mobilise citizens around climate action and adaptation. Join this workshop to explore how visual narratives can mobilise citizens and cocreate a comic that illustrates climate action.". The EU Climate Pact ambassador presente was Jose Segarra from Spain.

It is also important to notice that Juliana Carvalho, a member from Area Europa, is also a EU Climate Pact ambassador, based in Portugal, and she is assisting us in preparing the presentation, although she will not be able to attend in person.

This presentation will be a live Networking Event (workshop) that will be held during the European Project Festival in Ferrara, which aims to bring together professionals of the EU funds ecosystem to do networking, collaborate and exchange good practices from EU projects, "discussing and deepening their understanding of the choices and challenges of the future of the Union.

The festival is free to anyone interested in attending.

The European Projects Festival returns for its second edition with the title Ideas Taking Shape. The event will be held in Ferrara from 14 to 16 May 2025 and will be attended by representatives of European institutions, universities and research centres, schools and non-profit organisations, cultural and creative enterprises, European designers and professionals working in the field of European funding, citizens and young people from all over Europe". The 3 topics of the year will be: Resilience, Future, Unity.
