Weeks back, a young Kenyan man captivated the nation with a flawless performance of Utawezana, a song by Femi One and Mejja.

M-Pesa was celebrating its 18th birthday and held a show at Uhuru Park, with Femi One getting on stage for the song, which gave Azziad Nasenya her TikTok breakthrough.

However, Mejja was nowhere in sight, and a fan, Sylvester Omutere, stepped in.

He got on stage, and his talent impressed Kenyans.

Aside from mastering the lyrics, Sylvester also had a stage presence.

Hosea Oduori, who attended the event, told TUKO.co.ke that Sylvester was respectful.

"To his credit, he kept the distance from Femi and made no move to inappropriately dance with her."

Following the flawless performance, Kenyans said that it was the perfect definition of an opportunity meeting a prepared mind.

Sylvester caught Safaricom's attention and the giant telecom decided to gift him.

A photo doing the rounds on social media showed Sylvester and Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa fist-bumping.

They held a dummy check with an M-Pesa message. It showed that Safaricom had gifted him KSh 180,000.

Kenyans celebrated the move, while noting that Utaweza had been a blessing to young people. Some joked that they would memorise the lyrics just in case an opportunity arises.

Here are some of the reactions:

In other news, M-Pesa, which offers money transfer and micro-financing services, turned 18 in style.

Safaricom offered airtime giveaways, and Wadagliz were invited to perform their Anguka Nayo song.

Ndegwa could not hold back and he put his best foot forward.

The CEO donned casual shoes, a colourful shirt and a coat and danced while progressively getting lower to the ground.

In contrast, former Safaricom CEO and current Kenya Airways Chairman Michael Joseph did not move a muscle.
