is one of the most anticipated projects of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), as Jon Watts' Spider-Man trilogy was a consistent critical and commercial success. The last film in the trilogy, Spider-Man: No Way Home, reset the status quo for the character, leaving fans eager to see what Peter Parker (Tom Holland) would do with a new lease on life. Now, this next film in the series has added several new cast members, one of whom will be played by Sadie Sink. There have been several rumors about who she would be playing, and now the latest report suggests she will be a fan-favorite character.
In an episode of The Hot Mic, reporter Jeff Sneider briefly spoke about the rumors he had heard regarding Sink's character in Brand New Day. Specifically, Sneider claimed that Sink could be playing "an alternate universe Gwen Stacy." As of now, this is only a rumor, and as always with anything from Sneider's world, there has been no official confirmation as to who the Stranger Things actor will be playing. Still, it offers an interesting insight into the multiversal aspect that could be explored in the movie.

Matt Shakman took inspiration from a specific time period when preparing for the production of the upcoming MCU movie.
The latest series of MCU films has been dubbed The Multiverse Saga, with several projects, including Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness, Loki, and even No Way Home, dealing with variants of characters and the concept of alternate realities. However, the ending of the last Spider-Man film seemingly hinted that the next story would be a more street-level story, making the inclusion of a multiverse variant of Gwen feel out of place. Moreover, the mainline version of Gwen Stacy was never even introduced in Watts' Spider-Man trilogy, making the inclusion of a multiversal one feel somewhat out of place.

Overall, there's still a lot that isn't known about the next Spider-Man film. Brand New Day will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who had previously directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and written by Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers, who wrote the previous three Spider-Man movies as well. Cretton had initially been attached to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty before the premise and title of the film were scrapped following the controversy surrounding Jonathan Majors.
Rumors surrounding the plot of Spider-Man: Brand New Day have only grown more rampant, as evident by the report made earlier this week that the film would supposedly have Mark Ruffalo's Hulk at the center of its plot. Another aspect of the film's release that has fans even more intrigued about its plot and story details is the fact that it is scheduled for release shortly before Avengers: Doomsday. Tom Holland has not yet been confirmed to be part of the cast for the next Avengers film, fueling speculation about his future in the MCU and what role Spider-Man might also have in Secret Wars.
Whatever the case, it will be interesting to see how Tom Holland's Spider-Man interacts with a new cast of supporting characters. Along with Sadie Sink's mystery character, The Bear actor Liza Colón-Zayas is also confirmed to be in the film. Whether Sink ends up playing a character as iconic as Gwen Stacy or an original character made solely for the film has yet to be officially confirmed.
