Sabrina Carpenter Could Be In "Mamma Mia! 3"
“Mamma Mia!” franchise producer Judy Craymer has teased that Sabrina Carpenter could play a role in a third film.
Both “Mamma Mia!” movies were jukebox musicals released in 2008 and 2018 respectively. They starred the likes of Meryl Streep, Christine Baranski, Pierce Brosnan, Dominic Cooper, Colin Firth, Amanda Seyfried, Stellan Skarsgard and Julie Walters.
Speaking with Deadline recently, Craymer confirms that “Mamma Mia! 3” is currently in development. While not officially cast, Carpenter already has an idea of whom the singer could play: “She’d be a goddess or some relation who would look very much like Meryl Streep”.
Craymer produced the stage musical and feature films, and tells the trade the third film has a script, but story details are under wraps and it’s not clear when the film will move forward:
“Well, we know what we want to do with the movie, and it will happen. And I mean, we brought together this amazing group of movie stars that were all connected through it, and huge friendships evolved.”
Two years ago the film’s star Amanda Seyfried said those involved in the films wants to do another, but added: “The powers that be probably can’t afford us to be honest.”
The original stage show premiered in 1999 and followed the story of a mother, a daughter and three possible dads on a Greek island paradise – all unfolding to the music of ABBA. The first film grossed $611 million worldwide on a $52 million budget, while the sequel made $402 million worldwide on a $75 million budget.
