Ryan Longman: Wrexham squad talking about making history

Ryan Longman, the January signing for Wrexham from Hull City, has openly stated that the team is focused on achieving a historic third consecutive promotion. Currently positioned second in League One, Phil Parkinson's squad is keenly aware of their competitors, particularly Wycombe Wanderers, who are just behind them in the standings.
"100% we're talking about [promotion]," Longman admitted. "We want to do it, that's the goal, we want to make history, that's what we want to do." He emphasized the importance of concentrating on their own performance while also monitoring the progress of their rivals. "We want to take care of our own business but we'll keep an eye on what's going on around us because at the end of the day, they're our competitors at the moment. Winning games and pushing for promotion, that's why I came here."
Wrexham's recent 2-2 draw with Cambridge United saw them miss an opportunity to widen their lead over Wycombe. Despite George Dobson's early goal, Cambridge fought back, with Liam Bennett equalizing before halftime and Josh Stokes converting a penalty in the second half. Longman provided the assist for Sam Smith's equalizing header, salvaging a point for Wrexham.
Reflecting on the Cambridge game, Longman expressed disappointment but highlighted the team's strength in depth as a crucial asset for their promotion push. "We're disappointed. I think we had some big chances and some big calls that didn't go our way in the game, that's what it's come down to really," he said. "The first 30 minutes we were in good control. When they got that equaliser it did shift the momentum and their players got a bit of a boost from that."
Looking ahead, Wrexham faces a challenging run of fixtures, including a home game against Burton Albion and away trips to Wigan, Blackpool, and Lincoln, along with home games versus Bristol Rovers and Charlton. Longman remains optimistic about their chances. "There's six games left, there's so many points to grab. We've got to keep playing like that and hopefully those opportunities go in," said Longman. He further added, "The depth in the squad is incredible, some of the players we've got and the impact they can have off the bench, that's what you need to win three back-to-backs."
